Comparing the warranty of an aluminum fence with that of a steel fence is a little like comparing apples and oranges. In both cases, the warranties apply to the finish capability to resist moisture and corrosion.  In the case of steel, corrosion is in the form of the much more noticeable red rust; hence, very few steel fences are sold with long-term warranties.  The offering of a 20-Year warranty on the finish of a steel fence not only goes way beyond the norm for fences, but exceeds the warranties on other coated products from other industries (such as automobiles).  On the other hand, anything less than a lifetime warranty on aluminum would imply a surface likely to peel or fail in a very short time.  It should be noted that the warranties only address the surface finish of the fence, not the structural capability to withstand climbing and impact loads.  In the average "Lifetime" of original ownership (which statistically lasts five to seven years) neither the aluminum nor the steel fence should show any failure due to moisture or corrosion; the probability of a structural failure during the same five to seven year period is much greater than a coating failure, particular in an aluminum fence that has 30% to 50% less strength than a steel fence.
